Location: Txemuj, Guatemala
Leads: Trenton Hlookoff and Lucas van Witzenburg
Timeline: August 2025 to Present
Design and implement a drainage and slope stabilization project for a rural Guatemalan school.
This includes diversion channels, energy dissipation, and natural slope stabilization (jute matting and local vegetation). Partnering with the University of South Carolina’s student chapter and HDR for professional support and mentorship.
Progress Summary
Started the project over the summer (Aug 2025), and immediately began reviewing supplemental documentation. Worked with HDR to calculate and derive rainfall intensity data, which our design is built to accommodate for. Iterated several designs with professional mentorship and oversight. Made CAD designs, wrote the implementation report, and a project safety plan (Oct-Nov 2025).
Current and Future Objectives
Coordinate travel accommodations with the Regional Coordinator, make revisions to implementation reports as needed, and prepare for travel.
